Bar tabs

What it's for

Tabs shows every open bar tab — a running tab a guest keeps at the bar, adding rounds through the night — with its total, so you can keep an eye on what's open and close each one out.

note

Bar tabs are an optional module. If you don't see Tabs in the sidebar, it isn't enabled for your account.

Where to find it

Choose Tabs in the sidebar (route /tabs), or the By Tab chip in the Orders board view switcher.

Where tabs are opened

You open a tab and add rounds in the POS — opening a tab is the bar's version of picking a table, and drinks are added to it just like items on an order. This screen is the overview: it lists the tabs already running and lets you close them. The empty state says as much: "Open a tab from the POS…".

Reading the board

A summary line shows how many tabs are open, how many are awaiting payment, and the total running total across open tabs. Filter with the pills: Open, Awaiting, or All. The list refreshes itself every 15 seconds.

Each tab card shows its name, when it was opened and by which server, the number of orders on it, and its running total (with a small status like open or awaiting). Expand a card to see every round on the tab — the items and each order's amount — with the tab's total at the bottom.

Close a tab

When the guest is ready to settle, they pay through the normal billing flow (their tab's orders are billed and settled like any bill). Here, choose Close on the tab to mark it closed and clear it from the open list.

note

Close marks the tab closed — it doesn't take payment by itself. Settle the guest's rounds through the usual bill-and-settle flow, then close the tab.

Worked example

A guest runs a tab all evening. At the bar, you open a tab for Rahul in the POS and add each round to it. On the Tabs screen you watch its running total climb under the Open filter. When Rahul leaves, you settle his rounds in the billing flow, then choose Close — his tab drops off the open list.

Tips & things to watch

  • Watch the running total — the summary line is your exposure across every open tab.
  • Use the Awaiting filter to find tabs that have been billed but not yet closed.
  • ⚠️ Open tabs and add rounds in the POS — this screen doesn't create tabs or add items.
  • ⚠️ Close ≠ payment. Settle first in the billing flow, then close the tab here.
